Oregon School for the Blind/HB 2834 Hearing on Thursday

Hello OSB supporters;

The Ways and Means Committee has scheduled a Public Hearing and Work Session on HB-2834 relating to OSB for Thursday, May 21st, at 8:30 am. All of us need to attend!

As things currently stand, the legislature is planning on closing the Oregon School for the Blind. This is wrong and short sighted. The closing of OSB eliminates an invaluable resource for; students with visual imparments and additional disabilities, families who gain education and support, and school districts who don't have the resources or expertise with specific technologies or equipment.

Come urge the Legislature to reconsider closing the School for the Blind; It is time to consider the position "Co-location is better than no location".

Please spread the word about the public hearing and work session on HB-2834 relating to OSB for Thursday, May 21st, at 8:30 am in hearing room F.

Remember ... if this bill does pass, OSB will be one step closer to having their doors closed soon.

Please make every effort possible to attend this important meeting....parents, neighbors, supporters. We must show our support!

In unity

This Public Hearing and Work Session was changed to "invitation only". The public is still allowed to "sit in" but we will not be allowed to speak. It seems that the only invited members are those in favor of HB-2834.

I will be there even though I am needed at my job. The legislature needs to know that we care about our school and we are not going away.

Perpetuity means that the school was a gift to the Blind citizens of Oregon forever... It is our responsibility to take care of that gift.

It breaks my heart to think that 136 years of history could be gone within a few short weeks because a few politicians are so short sighted they can't see the devistating ramifications of their actions.

I grieve not just for the 31 children at OSB but for a State that is now Blind Unfriendly. We have lost the only school that teaches teachers of the visually impaired, we have lost The Commission for the Blind...Which defenseless population do we attack next?

I used to be proud to be an Oregonian...now...I am not so sure.
