Wednesday there was an historic vote in the Congressional Agriculture Committee. HR4645 the "Travel Restriction Reform And Export Enhancement Act" was passed by 24 votes to 20, putting us one step closer to ending the Cuba Travel Ban this year. Getting this bill out of Committee mark up is a big step. Oregonians should know that Rep. Kurt Schrader voted "NO". All polling shows that Americans and particularly Oregonians believe that the Cuba Travel Ban is a violation of our constitutional right to travel.
If he can't stand up for our constitutional right to travel what will he stand up for...? His only stated reason for his vote was that his Grandparents left Cuba 40 years ago. He should not travel to Cuba if he doesn't want to..but he should not try to prevent all Americans from exercising their fundamental rights.
Please call or visit his office in Salem or in Washington D.C. to express your disgust at this vote. They are hoping for a floor vote before November.
