An Oregon state bank: work in progress

Legislation for the Oregon State Bank idea has been meandering its way through the Oregon State Legislative process despite lobbying against the idea by the Oregon Bankers Association.

Community forums around the state have garnered support for the idea that revenues gathered from Oregonians should not be sent to Wall Street Banks, but used in a State Bank. This is different from just a state loan program. An Oregon State Bank would be basically not for profit and be able to leverage the deposits into loans greater than deposits - just like a bank, only the idea is to benefit Oregonians (small farmers, businesses), not the big national bankers who accelerated the economic crisis we're in.
