UNIONS UNITE FOR LGBT PRIDE IN PORTLAND SUNDAY JUNE 19TH

For the first time in Portland all LGBT Union members and allies will be marching together in one contingent. The newly formed Pride At Work in Portland (PAW is an AFL-CIO constituency group) has organized to have us all march together. We will be meeting between 10:00 and 11:00 Sunday morning at 12th and Everett. We are number 85.

The SEIU 503 Lavender Caucus has been marching together in Portland Pride for over 10 years and is excited to be joined together with other Union members. Pride Marches have been occurring yearly around the nation to commemorate the Stonewall Rebellion in 1969. The LGBT community in Greenwich Village fought back against continual Police harassment. One night they had enough and attacked the Police who were raiding the Stonewall Inn. Riots continued each evening with organizing during the day. The first March was in New York City and their two main slogans remain true for today. "Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are" and "Gay Is Good".
