Votes on free trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama are scheduled for the week of October 10. Congressman Kurt Schrader is planning to support these agreements with South Korea and Panama. President Obama is promoting them as part of his jobs package.
Now, with more than a decade of experience under NAFTA, we know labor and environmental standards were sorely lacking from the agreement. Obama promised to "use trade agreements to spread good labor and environmental standards around the world." He also made some specific promises regarding ILO labor conventions.
According to PoliFact, the new free trade agreements contain Some standards, yes, but not the ones promised.
