People involved in Occupy Salem held another General Assembly meeting at 6 pm at Salem's Riverfront Park pavilion. These meetings will continue at this time and location through Friday or Saturday. Sunday there will be a gathering and celebration at a different location. Monday, October 10 is the noontime rally and the beginning of the occupation of the capitol grounds.
This evening, there was further discussion of the platform/declaration of Occupy Salem. After much discussion, OS adopted the basics of the NYC occupation's declaration, with some additions and changes, also with the caveat that it is a living document and will with certainty be amended as things move and more people are involved.

I would like to see the OS rewriting of the NYC Occupation's Declaration, which I much admire and have posted by my desk. I hope the rewriting has been done in the same radical, anti-corporate spirit. But I do want to read it--can someone post it for all to see?
I was in the OSU library this morning and glanced through the last issue or Adbusters (the magazine), which contains their call for the OWS to begin Sept 17. I think it's worth remembering that Adbusters started this off.
Be sure and support the Occupy Scio movement as well, we are still trying to get it put together.

It will be posted on their Facebook Page for sure and we can post it. Two changes were made by Willamette Reds members. One replaced "citizens" with "people" which was an excellent illustration of the inclusivity of our demands and the other was to emphasize that we are independent of political parties. It was passé and noted that It is a fluid document that can be changed by the democratic process. I was glad we VOTED to accept the statement which is more democratic and efficient than so-called "consensus".
"Bill's Waste of Air" is just that--a waste of time and air. The "Occupy Scio" nonsense is Bill Post's wayward sense of humor at work, this time spoofing progressives and the left. I allowed the post because he is complaining on his show that he was censored on the Occupy Salem Facebook page, but these are probably the only posts I would allow from him. Other WR members may feel differently. Post censored me previously on his blog so this only seems fair and logical. "Occupy Scio" is a poor joke. But remember: first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they react, then you win.
I would say "Occupy Scio" is an extremely poor joke as there are undoubtedly many folks in Scio and surrounding rural areas that are experiencing true suffering due to the meltdown of the greed-based capitalist system...
I should have said "Occupy Scio" is a very CRUEL joke.
