Wolves endangered in Oregon
Yesterday, three conservation groups went to court to stop the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) from killing two more wolves in Oregon's first wolf pack (the Imnaha pack).
Conservationists are trying to stop a kill order for the alpha male (shown here in ODFW photo) of Oregon’s first wolf pack. If carried out, the kill order would reduce Oregon’s wolf population to 12 and leave a mother and young pup to fend for themselves.
ODFW ordered the wolf killing in spite of the Oregon Endangered Species Act which requires Oregon to conserve the species. The killing was also ordered in spite of the Oregon taxpayer-funded compensation plan which pays cattle ranchers for losses attributed to wolves.
ODFW is responding to pressure from the Oregon Cattleman's Association and other groups.
You can read more about the court filing here.
ACTION: Call Oregon's Governor John Kitzhaber at 503.378.4582, and tell him you want Oregon to stop killing wolves, at least until the court weighs in and resolves the issue.

I'm all for the wolves (cougars, too), and hope we all are. It's an issue well worth addressing.
