Obama and progressives: what will liberals do with their big election victory?

Glenn Greenwald has done a great OpEd piece on the Democrats' victory in which he asks, "With fights over Social Security, Medicare, ongoing war, and other key progressive priorities looming, what will they do with their new power?". Greenwald is saying what the left generally ought to be saying right now. We need to be realists. The signs of a cave-in on key social issues by the Democrats are there despite their strong victory against the ultra-right this week. This cave-in is not inevitable, however, and our realism should not give way to pessimism or to being onlookers. We made that mistake four years ago.
